Don Marion Gulledge was born August 11, 1935 to Thomas Dudley Gulledge and Lela Jeanette Rollins Gulledge in Chesterfield, South Carolina. Due to his father's untimely death, Don felt the added income he could provide was more important than finishing high school so he began early in his life providing for those he loved.
After holding several jobs in his little hometown he decided to join the Air Force. His basic training was in Illinois and it was there one night at a revival service he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. After completing basic training he was shipped to a place called Altus, Oklahoma where he found the person God had prepared for him. In a chance meeting in nearby Hobart, God brought together he and his soon to be wife of 60 years, Mary. On December 26, 1957 they were married. After Mary's high school graduation and Don completing his military service they moved to Sayre Oklahoma where he became the Beckham County Farm Bureau Insurance Agent until retiring in 2000. Don loved to play golf. He, Jim Crabb, Leonard Cox, Garland Hinkle, Cleatus Rhodes, JC Rogers and a number of other shady characters would spend many happy hours.
Don never forgot his first love, Jesus Christ, and served him in many capacities at the First Baptist Church of Sayre. He served his community on the City Council, the Election Board and the Lions Club, just to name a few.
Don passed away on Saturday, March 25th, in the family home in Sayre with his daughters and beautiful wife by his side. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary, daughters Merry Gaddy and Brenda Bryant of Oklahoma City, granddaughters Meghan Bryant and Maelee Bryant of Oklahoma City, grandson Darrell Odle and his wife Sarah and daughter Freya, of Ardmore, Oklahoma, sister-in-law Betty Gulledge of Chesterfield, S.C., and nieces Sarah Gulledge and Ann Gulledge Perkins, her husband Jason and their children Breanna and Timothy, of Chesterfield, S.C.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Lela, and brothers Merle and Jewel.
