Memorial service for Robert L. "Bob" Gritz, 96, is 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. P. J. Stewart and Lanny Jobe.

Private family interment precedes the service, under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.

Bob was born east of Hennessey June 7, 1922, to Dewitt and Lola Brown Gritz, and died Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at The Commons in Enid.

Bob graduated from Hennessey High School in 1941. He married Betty Norris November 19, 1941, in Protection, Kansas. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. as a tail-gunner in a B-17, flying 33 missions during WWII.

He attended watchmaking school at Bradley University, then moved to Enid where he worked for his uncle at H.V. Gritz Jewelers. In 1950, Bob moved the family back to Hennessey where he opened the R. L. Gritz Jewelry Store.

He sold the jewelry store in 1961, purchasing an insurance agency. Bob owned and operated R. L. Gritz Insurance Agency until his retirement in 1984.

He particularly enjoyed the crop-hail aspect of the insurance business and was Managing General Agent for the Hartford Insurance Company's Crop Hail Department for all of Oklahoma, following retirement from his own agency.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Coronado Masonic Lodge #56, was Mayor of Hennessey in the late 1950's and early 1960's.

Following Betty's death in 2007, Bob married Georgia Norris in Blackwell.

Bob is survived by his wife Georgia; one daughter Beth Hale and husband Ron, Sandia Park, New Mexico; one son Bert Gritz and Kim Fehring, Hennessey; six grandchildren, Sami Gabriel-DeBell and husband Mark, Denver, CO; David Hale and wife Julie, Weskan, Kansas; Rob Hale and wife Karla, Estes Park, CO; Gayla Lee and Bill Flohr; Heather Gritz; and Trevor Gritz, all of Hennessey; twelve great-grandchildren; Georgia's children, Larry Norris of Collinsville, Jacquie Hart and husband Doug of Ponca City, Susan Bymaster and husband Craig of Ames, Danny Norris and wife Angi of Green River, Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty, one daughter Becky, two brothers and one sister.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Multiple Sclerosis Society with the funeral home serving as custodian of the fund, Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home, 500 S. Main Street, Hennessey, OK 73742.
