Buddy Griffith

Buddy Griffith
October 29, 1928 ~ January 16, 2013

Buddy Griffith, longtime area resident, passed Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at his home. He was 84 years of age.

Buddy was born October 29, 1928 in the Bressie community, the son of Jessie Griffith and Venus Napp Griffith. He also attended school in the Bressie community. He was married to Wanda Wright on October 4, 1952 in Ponca City.

Buddy began employment with the City of Ponca City on August 11, 1962. He had been employed some 28 years with the City as a heavy equipment operator and was in charge of the city landfill at his retirement on February 1, 1991. He loved team roping events and was an outstanding team roper. He was a member of the USTRC which stands for United States Team Roping Championships. His other enjoyments included air boating, fishing, coyote hunting with greyhounds, attending the monthly flyins at the Ponca City Airport and watching his great nephews sprint car races. In earlier years Buddy enjoyed flat track motorcycle racing and dancing. Buddy had a special companion of many years in his dog Peanut.

He is survived by his three children, Steve Griffith, Cindy Wolfkill and Cheryl Shelton, all of Ponca City one brother, Eddie Griffith, also of Ponca City four granddaughters, Jackie Taylor, Crystal Griffith, Holly Chandler and Amy Heppel five great grandchildren, Ivan Fry, Austin Fry, Maddie Fry, Hailey Taylor and Landon Schwarz several other nieces, nephews, cousins and a long list of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents one brother, Duge Griffith and one sister, May Edna Bowker.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 21, 2013 at the Osage Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Harold Hutchins presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
