Louis R. Griffis died at home January 17, 2007, after a battle with cancer.
The son of Lyle and Mattie Griffis was born in Rapid City, South Dakota, July 22, 1938.
Louis and his mother moved to Germany in 1946 to join his father Lyle, who was serving there. The family later moved to Norman, where Louis learned to love football.
This year he celebrated fifty years of holding season tickets by attending every home game.
Griffis graduated from high school in Anadarko, {with the Class of 1956} from OU with a B.A. in Economics and later an M.B.A.
He eloped with Molly Levite on January 22, 1960, and married her a second time on April 3, 1960.
This most military of men spent 35 years in the service, joining the National Guard at 16. He retired as a colonel in the Army Reserve. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant of Artillery in 1960. He served two years of active duty at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, and held command and staff assignments in the US Army Garrison and the 95th Division (Training), where he was commander.
He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
Louis was employed as a senior business analyst with Kerr-McGee, working there from 1965-1998.
His hobbies included listening to sports and talk radio and reading.
He is survived by his wife Molly Levite Griffis, his mother Mattie Griffis, a son George and daughter Ginger.
