Shirley (Loyd) Griffee
June 14, 1938 ~ December 8, 2014

Shirley Griffee was born June 14, 1938 in Canute, Oklahoma to Jewel Rebecca and Theodore Easton Loyd. She passed away December 8, 2014 at Canute, Oklahoma at the age of 76 years, 5 months and 24 days.

Shirley grew up on a farm south of Canute and attended Canute schools graduating in 1956. After graduation, she met Wayne Shirey on a blind date and were later married on December 26, 1957. After their marriage they made their home in the Canute area and raised their two sons. During this time she was employed by TG&Y as a cashier and also worked as a cook in the lunch room at Canute schools. On January 2, 1975 Wayne passed away and Shirley remained in Canute. She was later married to Lee Owen Griffee at the Primitive Baptist Church, south of Canute, on February 14, 1976. Shirley and Lee continued to make Canute their home and she continued to work at the school. In the late 70's she opened The Cake Box and enjoyed creating specialty wedding and birthday cakes for her clients. In the early 80's she semi-retired and began a ceramics shop before her full retirement in the early 90's. Shirley enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting and scrapbooking but her greatest joy in life was spoiling her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Newman Wayne Shirey, 2 brothers, Leonard Lee Loyd and Vestal D. Loyd, nephew, Ricky Loyd, step mother, Polly Loyd.

She is survived by her husband, Lee, of the home; 5 children, Donnie Shirey and wife, Barbara, Collinsville, OK, Kennie Shirey and wife, Cathy, Elk City, OK, Regina Logan and husband, Mark, Phoenix, AZ, Kevin Griffee, Sterling, CO and Wesley Griffee, Lawton, OK; 11 grandchildren, Chandra, Jennie, Crystal, Jeremy, Chelsea, Stacie, Kandi, Brandi, Kevin II, Kailey, Avery; 10 great grandchildren, 3 sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Neece, Elk City, OK, Kathleen Loyd, Atascosa, TX and Oleta Loyd, Ada, OK; 2 step sisters, Dorothy Hampton and husband, C.L., Ardmore, OK and Norma Grantham and husband, Preston, Springfield, IL and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family suggest memorial donations be made to the Elk Creek Primitive Baptist Church C/O Lee Griffee, 102 East Walk Avenue, Canute, OK 73626.
