Nancy Ellen Grieves, 81, of Mason, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in October 1943, to Mary and Chris Krushensky. Nancy grew up near Ferndale, Michigan, later graduating from Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia, in 1961. She went on to complete her nursing education at Georgetown Nursing School, graduating in 1964, and later earned her Critical Care Nursing certification in 1997.
Nancy dedicated her life to caring for others—both as a nurse and as a servant of God. She worked at Sibley Memorial Hospital, Prince William Hospital, and Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton, Virginia, before finishing her nursing career at Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Known affectionately as “Nancy Nightingale the Singing Nurse,” she would sing hymns of praise while tending to her patients, a reflection of her deep Christian faith and love for others.
In August of 1964, Nancy married Ronald H. Sizemore and had two children, Bonnie and Robert. She later married Bill Grieves in May 1973, gaining three more children—Lisa, Lori, and Jim. Together with Bill, in Fauquier County Virginia, she created a family filled with love, faith, and joy. Nancy enjoyed a life of service, quilting, baking, gardening, and sharing the Word of God through daily devotions with her children and others.
Nancy was deeply involved in her church community, serving in various roles, including as a choir member, church secretary, and volunteer in missions and community outreach. Her servant's heart was evident not only in her work as a nurse but also in her years of volunteerism after retirement, particularly with Bristow Social Services, where she served on the Board and as a secretary, always ready with a smile and a helping hand.
One of Nancy's favorite places was Chincoteague VA, where she and her family spent many cherished moments together. She also loved traveling and cruising with her dear friend and sister-in-law Scott, after her retirement.
Nancy is survived by her five children: Lisa Wintermute, Lori Peglow, Bonnie Collier (Buck), Jim Grieves, and Robert Sizemore (Stacy); sisters-in-law, Scott G. Noel and Mary G. Smith; her friend and "daughter from another mother" Toni Godwin; and her beloved grandchildren: Aaron, Amber, Candice, Lena, Brandon, Jared, Janie, Jaymes, Alyssa, William, and Alex. She also leaves behind great grandchildren: Stephanie, Emily, Madison, Lilly, Addison, Ella, Matthew, William, Benjamin, Austin, Jocelyn, Juliana, Xander, Mason, Stella, Chloe, Ledger, Layne, Layla, Lillian, Denise and great great granddaughter Violet., as well as many dear friends and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William (Bill) P. Grieves, Jr., and her granddaughter Miranda Jo.
