Robert (Bob) Greaves, 88, passed away July 6, 2017 in Abilene, Texas. Funeral service was July 8 at Girdner Funeral Home Chapel in Abilene and burial was July 11 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.
Robert was born in Bartlesville, OK to Robert Atlea and Mildred Lois (Levan) Greaves. He graduated from College High school in Bartlesville in 1947, then enlisted for two years in the United States Army and served as a radio operator in Okinawa and six years in USAF Reserves. He earned a Bachelor degree in engineering from Oklahoma Baptist University and in 1972 a Masters in Divinity from Golden gate Baptist theological seminary where he had met and married Lelamay Thorne.
He is preceded in death by his wife Lelamay, their daughter, Sharon, wife Margarita, the widow of a Spanish minister in Houston, and brothers Philip and Jon Greaves who also grew up in Bartlesville.
Robert is survived by son David of Houston, TX, daughter Wanda (Rodney) Yates, of Blountsville, AL, brother Richard (Helen) Greaves, of Alhambra, CA, sister Marilyn (Melvin) Smith of Bartlesville, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Known to friends and family as Bob, he was God's faithful servant. At various churches in California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas he served as Pastor, Associate Pastor with a local Spanish-speaking church,, preacher, Sunday school director & teacher, Spanish-English interpreter, children's ministry leader, bus ministry leader & driver, deacon, senior's ministries leader, home bible study teacher, and associational missionary for inner city ministries. He also performed duties without titles to forward church development and growth as well as menial duties like building maintenance and cleaning. After working as a corrections officer in Riverside County, California, Bob became a professional computer software programmer, and worked for various companies across the Southwest, including Raytheon (White Sands Missile Range, NM), Lockheed (US Army Electronic Proving Ground, FT Huachuca, AZ), United States Army Information Systems Command (Ft Huachuca, AZ), Texas Instruments (Houston, TX) and Army Corps of Engineers (Galveston, TX). He worked hard at two full time jobs when a pastor and always did much for the Lord regardless how much time he spent on the day job.
His life was a service both to mankind and to God.
