Winston Gene Gray, age 84, of Purcell passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Norman Regional Hospital.
He was born February 27, 1932 near Kinta, OK, Winston was the youngest of 5 children born to Oscar Cooper Gray and Bertie Lou (Turner) Gray. He spent his early childhood there, attended grade school in Quinton and graduated from McAlester High School in 1950. He attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University where he received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Industrial Arts.
He married his best friend and soul mate, Patricia Laverne Clary, on July 2, 1954 in Talihina, OK. The couple celebrated their 61st anniversary in 2015. The family moved to Wynnewood where he taught school for a couple of years. They made their home in Wynnewood where together they raised 4 children, daughters, Jennifer and Angela and sons, Mike and Eric.
Winston joined the Army Reserves, and served on active duty in the early 60's. He returned to Wynnewood where he continued his career with the Kerr McGee Refinery there, working as a Design Engineer. He retired after 36 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed carpentry, wood crafts, gardening and raising cattle on his farm and especially traveling in his motor home. Winston was proud to have visited all 50 states. A longtime and faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Wynnewood, Winston was a Deacon for more than 45 years. He sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, RAs and served as chairman on various committees throughout the years. In 2007, the Grays relocated to Purcell and have since called it home. He attended The First Baptist Church in Purcell. Winston will be remembered as a loving husband and father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and a good friend. He will be dearly missed!
He was preceded in death by: His parents, Oscar and Bertie Gray; 2 brothers, O.J. Gray and Doyle Gray and A sister, Nina Garsee.
Winston leaves behind: His wife, Laverne, of the home; 2 sons, Mike Gray and wife Rebecca of Austin, TX and Eric Gray and wife Cheryl of Corpus Christi, TX; 2 daughters, Jennifer Davis and husband Jody of Shawnee and Angela Genson and husband Mike of Purcell; A sister, Amy Ruth Hicks of Hideaway, TX; Grandchildren, Tara Hensley and Mickey (Aubry, Lane, Brandon, Jett), Huffman, TX; Alisha Deakins and Patrick (Hudson due in Sept), Springdale, AR; Jarad Gray and Laura (Ashleigh, Michael, Kayden, baby due in Sept), Magnolia, TX; Matt Gray and Blake, London, England; Steven Gray and Monica (Abigail), Spring, TX; Kris Gray and Ashton (Evie), Pflugerville, TX; William Gray and Patricia (Hayden, Olivia), Alice, TX; Wesley Gray and Samantha (Wes, Collin, Lexi, Leslie) Corpus Christi, TX; Dylan Gray and Beth, Pearl Harbor, HI; Paige Gray, Corpus Christi, TX; Cara Raines and Matt (Jake, Eli, Leah, Emma), Broken Arrow, OK; Amy Rich and Tim (Kailey, Gracey), Prague, OK; Jarred, Jordan and Jason Genson, Norman, OK; 21 Great grandchildren and 2 on the way; Numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
