James Newton "J N" Gray

October 06, 1938 ~ December 29, 2017

JN (James Newton) Gray, 79, of Jet, Ok, passed away Friday, Dec. 29, 2017. 

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wanda, of the home; three siblings; two children; and many more.

JN was born on a family farm in Lambert, OK, on Oct. 6, 1938. He was raised in the area and graduated from Cherokee High School in 1958.

JN joined the 45th Infantry of the U.S. National Guard while still in high school. 

He moved to Hobbs, NM, in Nov. 1958, where he met the love of his life, Wanda Morrow, and they were married Sept. 6, 1959. JN & Wanda lived in the Midland/Odessa, TX area, and then Jet/Nash, OK area, while raising three children. 

JN's work-life included farm work, truck driving and oil field construction, but he will be remembered most for his fun-loving nature and song writing talent.

His surviving legacy includes son, Terrell (Terry) Gray and wife Vicki, of Mustang, OK; daughter, Penny (Nita) Kerley and her husband Terry, of Mustang, OK.

Also, granddaughters: Heather Helberg and husband, Ryan of Mustang; Amy Jo Boone and husband Lee of Oklahoma City; Jennifer McGlaughlin of Waukomis, OK; Kelsey Scott of Oklahoma City; grandsons: Skylar Gray and wife Jessa of San Clemente, CA; and Tucker Gray and wife Amber of OKC; great-grandsons: Cauy McGlaughlin, Daltyn Steele, and Jaden Helberg; great-granddaughters: Danielle Buttrum, Katelynn, Addyson, and Maycee Niles, Jayleigh Davenport, Quinn Boone, and Evaine Gray.

Surviving siblings are Marlene Kerns of Cherokee, OK; Don Gray and wife Linda of Hobbs, NM; and Ann Hawkins and husband Russell of Boerne, TX.

JN was preceded in death by his mother and father, Amby (William) and Margaret (nee Bruner) Gray; an infant twin brother; and son, Robert Amby Gray.

A Memorial service for Gray is scheduled for 2 p.m. today, Jan. 5, 2018, at the Nash 1st Baptist Church.

The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, you make a donation to the Jet Fire Dept. or the Nash 1st Baptist Church. 

Arrangements are by Crawford Family Funeral Service, Edmond.
