Edna Irene (Eagan) Gray

January 23, 1940 ~ April 1, 2019

Memorial services for Edna Gray will be held on Monday, April 8, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with Reverend Aaron Wagner officiating. Wharton Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at http://www.whartonfuneralchapel.com.

Edna Irene (Eagan) Gray was born January 23, 1940, to Charles Edwin Eagan and Gladys (Ward) Eagan in Denver, Colorado. Edna passed away in Alva, Oklahoma, April 1, 2019, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Edna was the youngest of four children.

In 1946 when Edna was five she and her parents moved to the Panhandle of Oklahoma. She grew up at her family’s farmhouse west of Forgan, Oklahoma, in Beaver County. She attended and finished at Forgan High School. She later attended Panhandle A & M at Goodwill, Oklahoma. She met Robert (Bob) C. Gray and they married September 21, 1961, in Stratford, Texas. To this union two sons were born: Robert E. (Bobby) Gray in 1962 and John “Mike” Gray in 1967.

Edna worked as a beautician for several years then went to work at the Dairy Queen, which was owned by her in-laws Johnny and Clela Gray. In 1978 Bob and Edna bought the Vista Motel across from the water tower and sold it in 1986. In the spring of 1987 they took over and ran the Dairy Queen until their retirement in 2011. The Dairy Queen had been in the Gray family for 53 years.

Edna loved attending her two grandkids' activities and through the years attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University games and attended Oklahoma State University football and basketball games with her son Mike and his family. Edna loved to take trips to Branson, Missouri, and spend time with her two grandkids, Connor and Ashley Gray, the children of Mike and Billie Gray.

Edna is survived by her son Mike, daughter-in-law Billie Jo, and twin grandchildren Connor and Ashley of Perkins, Oklahoma. She loved living in Alva and always enjoyed seeing customers and friends at the Dairy Queen. She is now with her husband Bob who passed in 2014 and her oldest son, Robert.
