Donald Leroy "Doc" Graves
January 3, 1921 ~ March 4, 2016

Memorial services for Donald "Doc" LeRoy Graves, MD, age 95, of Enid will be held Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Wakita, Oklahoma with the Rev. Charles Graves and Rev. Lisa Anderson officiating. Cremation arrangements were made by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home & Crematory.

Don was born to Roy Edwin and Prudence Hubbard (Hersey) Graves on January 3, 1921 in Mitchell, South Dakota, and he passed away on Friday March 4, 2016, in Enid.

Don graduated from Egan High School in Mitchell, SD and then attended Asbury College in Wilmore, KY, where he graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in 1942. He attended New York Medical College and graduated in 1945. On September 18, 1944, he married Bonnie Lee Hagen in Vermillion, SD. Don served as a medical officer for the US Navy in World War II. He was a family medical doctor in eastern Kentucky and north-central Oklahoma, was named the Family Medical Doctor of the year in 1983 by the Oklahoma Academy of Family Physicians, was a charter fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice. Don was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, the Lions Club, the United Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Church, and countless other volunteer organizations. In addition to his years of medical and volunteer service to under-served rural communities, he was once the Mayor of his beloved town Wakita.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters and their husbands, Helen and Wayne Clymer, and Prudence and Lowell Oberg; and his sister-in-law Eloyce Graves.

Donald is survived by his wife Bonnie; 5 children, Steven Graves and Sue of West Chester, PA; Dr. Donella Young and Bill of Spokane, WA; the Rev. Charles Graves and Karen of Woodward, OK; Connie Wolcott of Lubbock, TX; Paula Unruh and Doug of Newton, Kansas; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and his brother Rev. Merrill Graves and Patty of South Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the Wakita Community Health Center or the Wakita United Methodist Church.
