Juanita (Sexton) Grant

Juanita (Sexton) Grant
November 16, 1932 ~ August 17, 2023

Juanita Grant, 90, of Bristow, Oklahoma, left this life on August 17, 2023 to be reunited with her beloved husband, family and friends who preceded her.

Born in Hollis, Oklahoma on November 16, 1932, to William T. McCarver and Eula Sexton, Juanita was raised with her four siblings Ruth, Lorene, Louise and JR. Education was important to Juanita and she excelled in many subjects, earning accolades along the way for her studiousness, creativity and craftsmanship before graduating from Gould High School with honors.

On December 22, 1951, Juanita married her high school sweetheart, Alton Grant, and the young couple made their home together on the Grant farm North of Gould. Shortly thereafter, they welcomed two sons, Randy Lynn in 1953 and Bobby Keith in 1954, and the family of four lived and worked together on the farm until Alton joined the Oklahoma Highway Patrol in 1960. The family relocated to Cordell, OK where Juanita worked in and out of the home as a switchboard operator and dental assistant for several years before relocating to Buffalo, OK and finally settling in Bristow, OK in 1965 where she became an integral part of the community, working for 32 years at the Garment Factory, eventually becoming assistant manager before retiring.

Juanita shined brightly in her role as a matriarch and made a beautiful home for her family. The epitome of a loving and supportive mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Juanita made certain that each achievement and milestone was celebrated and that every holiday was filled with wonder, meaning and togetherness. As cheerleader of the family, she never missed an opportunity to be in attendance to champion her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at every ballgame or wrestling match, spelling bee, music concert, play or other important event making certain they always knew she was there to offer encouragement.

A devout Christian, Juanita was a kind, strong, and generous woman who accepted all people with open, loving arms, as she believed Jesus would. Dedicated to family, community and church she lived out her faithful walk with Jesus in all that she did. Committed to a life of service, Juanita freely gave of her time, talent and treasure wherever she found herself. She was a frequent blood donor and often volunteered at the dialysis center. The years she taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church alongside her dearest friend and sister at heart, Lavon Warren, brought her great joy. Often volunteering in the kitchen at First Baptist she was well known for her meatloaf, cornbread stuffing and pink fluff ambrosia salad. She enjoyed caring and bringing comfort to others through her cooking.

Juanita’s wisdom, grace and service touched many lives during her 90 years. She is deeply loved and will be missed greatly by all who were blessed to know her.

Juanita is survived by her two sons, Randy (Lucia) of Orlando, FL and Bob of Bristow, OK; five grandchildren, Linda Grant of Tulsa, OK, Keith Grant (Kristen) of Bentonville, AR, Betanya and Katrina Grant of Chuluota,FL, and Chris Grant of Bristow, OK; four great grandchildren, Emma Grant of Stillwater, OK, Molly, Jack, and Ruby Grant of Bentonville, AR

Juanita was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alton Grant, her daughter-in-law, Cheri Grant, her grandson Troy Grant, her father, William T. McCarver, her mother, Eula Sexton, her sisters, Ruth Payton, Lorene Singleton, and Louise Weldon, and her brother, J.R. McCarver.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made to trusted Law Enforcement and Firefighting Support Organizations or St. Jude's in Juanita's memory. A service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at 10:00 AM on August 26 at First Baptist Church in Bristow, Oklahoma.
