Heaven has gained another great man, Ray Lee Goyne, commonly known as “Pa” to his family, on Thursday, June 26, 2025. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family at his Ardmore, OK residence. Ray was born on June 14, 1945, to Roy Lee Goyne and Billie May Kirby in Bonham, TX.
Ray married the former Sheron Perry on January 10, 1965, in Amarillo, TX. This was a marriage that lasted over sixty years.
Ray had worked in the oilfield for almost 50 years, with companies such as The Western Company, Haliburton and BJ Hughes. He was known by many as he traveled the oilfield in sales, mainly New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma. He also tinkered on anything he could get his hands on, specifically woodworking and cars.
As much as he loved going out into his shop to do things, he loved watching his kids, grandkids and great grandkids in their activities even more. Nothing made him happier than watching them do what made them happy. His love for children carried over to the point he taught three-year-olds in Sunday school for a very long time at First Baptist Church in Ardmore, where he was a longtime member and a deacon. He had a quiet demeanor but was loved by everyone that he had met.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herbert Goyne and Harold Osbourne; and a great-grandson, Alexander Xavier.
Those left to cherish and carry on Ray’s legacy are his wife, Sheron of the home; daughters, Cari Wheat and husband Michael of Melbourne, FL, and Tracy Muse and husband Shawn of Ardmore, OK; grandchildren, Devnee Campbell of Ardmore, OK, Ryan Wheat of Pittsburgh, PA, Alexis Haggard and husband Delano of Denison, TX, Kyle Wheat of Apopka, FL, Myra “Marissa” Marchant and husband Evan of Melbourne, FL, Tommi Campbell and Geoff Segler of Ardmore, OK, and Zane Campbell of Ardmore, OK; great grandchildren, Raeleigh Martin, Braylynn Martin and Destin Haggard; brothers, Billy Gene Goyne of AZ, and Douglas Kirby of Ft. Worth, TX; sister Sue Dewiggins of Ft. Worth, TX; and many, many extended family members and friends.
A time to celebrate Ray’s life will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Ardmore with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Monday, June 30, in the Brady Chapel at First Baptist Church. Cremation services are under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Marietta, OK.
Honorary casket bearers will be Michael Wheat, Shawn Muse, Delano Haggard, Ryan Wheat, Kyle Wheat, Zane Campbell, Destin Haggard, Geoff Segler and Tracy Campbell.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ray’s honor to Lottie Moon Offering at www.imb.org, or to Cross Timbers Hospice, 207 C Street NW, Ardmore, OK 73401.
Services are under the care of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Marietta.
