Doris Goree, 86 year old Woodward resident died Friday, July 16, 2021. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, July 20, 2021 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
Doris Irene (Huenergardt) Goree was born on December 16th, 1934 to Adolph and Nora (Lake) Huenergardt at the Old Farm House in Selman, Oklahoma in Harper County. Doris grew up north of Selman on the family farm and graduated from Selman High School in 1953. She then went to The American Business College in Wichita, Kansas and graduated with a Junior Accounting Degree. The school ensured every graduate had a job waiting for them. Doris' first job was at the Love Box Manufacturing Company in Wichita, Kansas.
Doris was married in February of 1957 at the Lutheran Church in Buffalo. She went on to raise her four children, Bill, James, Charles and Pam. Their first residence was Wichita, Kansas. She and the kids moved to Topeka, Kansas; Tucson, Arizona; Buffalo and finally Fort Supply. She went to work for Western State Hospital in 1969 as a Switch Board Operator and retired in May of 1995.
After Doris had her fist stroke she moved to Woodward. She spent the last three years at Providence Place Assisted Living Facility. She enjoyed her time there taking care of her plants, hoarding orange sherbert, yelling for Pam to do something for the residents. She was the resident parking police.
Some of the things that brought Doris the most joy was gardening and her love for plants and flowers. She loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. When she was not outside, she could be caught watching CMT TV and the Grand Ol Opry. Doris passed her love of plants and her green thumb (not to her daughter, Pam) but to her granddaughter Destiny. She made sure that Destiny knew how to properly care for HER PLANTS!
