Daphne Jane (Jenkins) Goodson

Daphne Jane (Jenkins) Goodson
September 25, 1969 ~ August 31, 2020 (age 50)

Daphne Jane Goodson blessed Charles and Glennes Jenkins on September 25, 1969, as their 5th child. She had a special bond with her father in the love of geology. Daphne married Jerry Dale Goodson on April 4, 1992, raising their family in Duncan, as had her parents. She joined her parents in death on August 31st.

Her favorite endeavor by far was mother to her two children, Audrey, a gifted Journalism major and Junior at OU, and Graham, a sixth grader with a talent and loved for water sports and every team sport.

Daphne loved nurturing her family with home cooked meals, freshly baked pies, and beautiful gardens and flowers surrounding their home. Each Fourth of July was sweetened by Daphne’s homemade ice cream, churned exactly as her mother had done before her. Family gatherings were a highlight of every holiday. Daphne was strongly committed to her Christian faith, serving as a member of the EE PEO Chapter of Duncan and the First United Methodist Church.

She graduated as the Outstanding Senior from the OU College of Geosciences in 1992 and as a proud member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. In 1987 she graduated with honors from Duncan High School as Captain of the Drill Team.

Daphne enjoyed a rewarding career, first with her dad at Jenkins Oil Company and then joining Mack Energy in 2000, finally serving as Senior Geologist, working until the day she passed away.

She was the baby sister to Gay Cox (Robert) of Edmond, Sherry Gossett (William) of Duncan, Charles Jenkins, Jr. of Oklahoma City and Suzanne Shields (John) of Edmond. All have survived her.

She will be remembered as the fun-loving aunt who always enjoyed playing in the dirt, by Adam Cox (Melanie), Chris Cox (Kerry), Jeremy Gossett, Laura Stockton (Trent), Kyle Gossett, Jack Shields, Charlie Shields, Henry Shields, Thomas Strong and Emma Strong.

She was a delightful and cherished daughter-in-law to Mrs. Thomas (Linda) Goodner and a beloved sister-in-law to Dena Light and Gary Strong.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. on September 4, at the First United Methodist Church with Kathy Gibson officiating. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Duncan and online condolences can be made to the family at www.whittfh.com.
