Genevieve (Heston) Goodner, 103, of McAlester, died Saturday, April 22, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her family. Her body was bequeathed to OU Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by Dr. Matt Judkins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Gensler, Mike Kirkpatrick, Don Lewis, Dr. Ray Dixon, Brent Grilliot, and her beloved grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice or plant a tree in memory of Genevieve.
Genevieve was born to Adrian O. Heston, Jr. and Hazel Lucille (Barnes) Heston on December 11, 1919 in Chicago Heights, Illinois. She was raised in Oklahoma City where she attended school and graduated high school.
She met Paul Goodner at the Linwood United Methodist Church youth group in Oklahoma City. They were married on August 30, 1940 in Oklahoma City. They moved to McAlester in 1948.
Genevieve worked for Seamprufe as a key punch operator, and then she worked for the Naval Depot in special weapons for 15 years, retiring in 1969.
She was an active and devoted member of First United Methodist Church, and recently became a member of Renewal Church in McAlester. Her Lord and family always came first in her life. She taught Bible studies, Sunday school, and was always active in church.
She worked closely beside her husband, Paul, raising her children and grandchildren. She was a great cook, an avid reader, and talented seamstress and gardener. She loved to watch Jeopardy and the Wheel of Fortune, and complete crossword puzzles.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents: Adrian Heston, Jr. and Hazel L. Heston; husband: Paul Goodner; son: Jimmy Paul Goodner; daughter-in-law: Connie Goodner; grandson: Bo Constantine; and brothers: Adrian Heston, III and Robert Heston.
She is survived by her daughters: Elaine Linn of Irving, Texas, Jean “P.J” Goodner and husband, Jay Emerson of McAlester; grandchildren: Mike Linn, Eric Linn, Jetta Airhart, Chad Goodner, Paul R. Goodner and wife, Kesree, James Butler and wife, Vernita, Jan Bridges, Steve Constantine, Geoff Constantine; Steve Tacker; great-grandchildren: Kylie Tacker and Julian Rosales, Cole Tacker, Payton Goodner and Day Knight, Caitlyn Kiedis, China Goodner, Josh Harrington and Alasha Jennings, Jackson Goodner, Madden Goodner; great-great-grandchildren: Jailee, Josie, Kingston, Penelope; brother: Richard Heston of Claremore; and nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
