Lillie Evelyn (Higgins) Goodman

April 19, 1918 ~ April 3, 2009

Lillie Evelyn Goodman passed away April 3, 2009. She was born April 19, 1918 in Paden, Oklahoma, to Rev. Herman H. Higgins and Leola Lee Higgins. The oldest of ten children,

Lillie attended school in Milfay, Oklahoma, and spoke fondly of going to church with her father. She was a friend to all, never met a stranger and loved everyone regardless of race, creed or color. She had a quick wit and would seldom pass the chance to play a prank. She was not shy with her words, and you never had to doubt where she stood on an issue. Her forgiving heart was bigger than life. She had 'mustard seed faith,' while her Christian spirit and faith-filled walk with God was an inspiration to all who came to know her. She was a student of the Bible.

She had a hard and honest work ethic and loved to cook. She worked at the Star Spencer cafeteria in the 1960s/70s and befriended many a student who lacked lunch money or asked for a bigger portion. She later managed a TG&Y snack bar and then worked at Dairy Queen where her homestyle cooking earned many a customer and her money management skills contributed to the bottom line. She loved the outdoors, gardening, dogs, cats, chickens, horses and any other varmint that would wander into her yard. She was a two-time cancer survivor in 1966 and 1980. She was devoted to her children and family. A 14-course home-cooked Sunday dinner was an expected and weekly event until she reached the age of 88. All her children were born in Stroud, Oklahoma. Lillie and her family moved to Midwest City from Pomona, California in 1961 and then to Spencer in 1962, where she resided until 1995, when she moved to Harrah for the remainder of her life.

She was preceded in death by a son, Danny C. Goodman her parents, Herman H. Higgins and Leola Lee Higgins brothers: Rev. Homer H. Higgins, H Higgins, James Higgins, Henry Higgins, Vernon Higgins sisters: Zelma Murrell, Doris Higgins and former husband, O.C. Goodman.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Vernon and her husband Ronnie of Harrah, Oklahoma son, James H. 'Sonny' Goodman and his wife Deborah of Norman, Oklahoma son, Randy L. Goodman and wife Susan of Harrah sister, Linnie Chastain of Long Beach, California grandsons: Rod Vernon, Greg Vernon and David Vernon of Harrah, Jim Goodman of Oklahoma City, Jeff Goodman of Norman, Kevin Stubbs of Midwest City granddaughters: Angela Looney of Norman, Billie Logue of Choctaw, Tonya Delclef of Oklahoma City 14 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and legions of friends, including special friend, Vickie Adams of Harrah, Oklahoma.

Her death has left a void that no earthly person can fill.
