Dave was born in Baltimore, MD to Gertrude (Goldstein) and Arthur Goodman.
He received his bachelor's from the University of Maryland and started work with the federal government. In 1963, he was drafted into the Army and was stationed at Fort Jackson, SC. He was proud of his service to our country and remained patriotic his entire life.
He returned to work in Madison, WI, where he met Barbara Brachmann. They married May 11, 1968. A year later, he transferred to Washington, DC. They made their home in Bowie, MD. In 1969, they welcomed son Isaac Arthur, and 14 months later, son Darryl Emmett. In 1979, Dave's work took them to Oklahoma City. In 1994, he retired from the federal government with 34 years of service.
He loved square dancing and performed many hours of voluntary service. Dave was an active member of Temple B'nai Israel. He and Barbara were proud of their mixed Jewish/Catholic marriage and were mutually respectful of each other's beliefs. Dave was a resilient man, having survived four cancer operations and a brain tumor. He met each hardship head-on with dignity and truly beat the odds, living a long and happy life. Last November, he celebrated his 80th birthday with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and older brother, Sheldon "Shel" Goodman, of Maryland.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara, of Bethany; son, Isaac Goodman & Kelly Woods, of Oklahoma City; son, Darryl Goodman & wife Gillian, of Yukon, OK; and grandchildren, Lauren, Ethan, Archer, and Adalynn.
His Memorial Service is at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 at Mercer-Adams, 3925 N. Asbury in Bethany.
