James (Jim) Goins, 73, of Bartlesville died suddenly Sunday.
Jim, a longtime resident of Washington County, was born the son of Marion and Etta Lee Goins on Sept. 15, 1942, in Westville, OK, not far from the Arkansas state line. From an early age, Jim loved football and he played defense with all his heart and soul at Westville High School. Before graduating, he set several records that still stand and are celebrated today and are displayed in his hometown Dairy Queen. Back in the day, he worked out using a 5 gallon bucket full of cement in each hand as weights, and he loved to tell his colorful football stories anytime he could.
After graduation, he joined the National Guard and during that time, he met the love of his life, Hattie Elizabeth (Beth) Parker. They were married on Dec. 11, 1965, in Bartlesville where they raised two daughters. Jim had a 43-year long career as an electrician in the smelting industry. Throughout his life, he stayed physically active and enjoyed sports, fishing and golfing at Sunset club. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his wife Hattie of the home; two daughters Amy and David Donnell, and Julie and Bryan Miller; five sisters, Shirley and Bill Casey, Sue and Ted Caviness, Shelah Veach, Shasta Dixon, and Jackie Leach; two brothers, Bobby Morrison and J.J. Morrison; three grandchildren, Tierney Donnell, Caleb Miller, and Chase Miller; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for family and friends will be held 6-8 p.m. on Wed., Nov. 25, at the Davis Family Funeral Home chapel, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home.
