Joyce Jean Givens, 53, of Perry passed into the arms of her Lord on Sunday, June 10, 2012. Services are under the direction of Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home and will be held on Friday, June 15, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church (1102 Cedar) in Perry with Reverend Stanley Bloom presiding. Visitation will be held the evening before the service from 12:00-8:00 at the funeral home.
Joyce was born on September 13, 1958 in Kermit Texas to William Andrew and Maria Magdelena Jackson. She grew up in the Dolores, Colorado area, graduating from Dolores High School in 1977. She was well known for putting other people first, taking care of children, and always welcomed other people into her home. In fact, she barely responded to Joyce as everyone simply called her “Granny.” In her spare time she enjoyed watching dirt track races, crafts, sewing, and was an avid collector of junk. She also enjoyed Facebook and her computer games. Her children and kids she helped raise never had to wear a store bought costume for Halloween or dress for Easter. She enjoyed traveling to family reunions in Colorado or the zoo in Oklahoma City. Her main passion in life though was her grandchildren.
Joyce is survived by her four children: Jennifer Brownlee and husband Jeff of Perry, Jason Schechter and Amber Wooten of Tulsa, Joni Leigh and husband Levi of Morrison, and Dustin Schechter and wife Brittany of Oceanside, California; four siblings: Colleen Smith of Dolores, CO, Paula Bradford of Kirtland, NM, Alton Jackson of Phoenix, AZ, and EuDell Votroubeck of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren Darrian Brownlee, Emma Leigh, Kyleigh Wooten, Andrew Wooten, and one on the way Baylee Schechter; her special “grandkids”: Kohl Witter, Zain Wilson, Rhyker Wilson, Breanna Dodson, Jaclynn Dodson, Adreona Lovell, Allie Zinck, and Ty Lovell; close friends Jack Schechter and Heather Lovell, as well as numerous nieces nephews, other family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Jerry Jackson, and Arthur Jackson.
