Alma Jane (Hastings) George, age 95, passed away peacefully January 1, 2025 in Coffeyville, Kansas. She was born November 23, 1929 in Independence, Kansas to Homer and Louisa Hastings. Alma was truly a miracle. She was born in her home, two months premature. She weighed only 3 1/2 pounds and her bed was a shoe box. Despite the odds, Alma lived a very long and healthy life.
Alma graduated from Lenapah High School in 1947. She was united in marriage to Donald George in 1948. They made their home in rural Wann, Oklahoma, where they lived for 64 years, raising their three children, Melinda, Gary and Bonnie. Together, they enjoyed raising cattle and farming. Alma and Donald celebrated 68 years of marriage, until Donald’s death in 2016.
Alma loved nature and living in the country. She was very kind, giving and had a soft spot in her heart for dogs. Among her favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, gardening, canning and traveling. Alma was also active in her community. She was a member of the Oklahoma Home & Community Education (OHCE) organization for many years. And she also enjoyed volunteering with the Nowata County Election Board.
Alma is survived by her three children, Melinda Valadez, Gary (Nancy) George and Bonnie (Darrell) Miller, grandchildren Tonya (Tim) Marchand, Amanda (Jacob) Feltner, Melissa (Nick) DeVivo, Justin (Kimberly) George, Heather (Brad) Weber, Elicia Stapleton and Hampton (Sarah) Stapleton. 11 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her spouse Donald George, sisters Clarice Doback and Saundra Adams, and granddaughter Jenny Stapleton.
Cremation handled by Stumpff Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church (433 N Mississippi St) in Nowata, Oklahoma on Saturday February 1st at 1:00pm.
