John was born in Enid, Oklahoma, to John C. and June Gehay. His childhood was spent traversing the globe with his large family as his father served in the USAF. John's father retired from the Air Force in 1967, at which time the family returned to Enid to stay.
John graduated from Enid High School in 1970, and he began a career in the oil fields, which would last the next 25 years. John was full of love and buoyancy, treating every person he met with equal dignity and teasing kindness. He especially love John Wayne, Cribbage and pleasing all with his excellent culinary skills. Renowned for his blarney and a tendency to "poke-the-bear", he captivated all audiences.
John has left behind his wife Barbara; his children: John, Jr., Brandon, Kanette, Lalanya, Skyler, and Trenton; his siblings: Jean Fulgium, Madonna French, Theresa Holsten, Angie Sharp, Mary Morrow, and Margaret Buffalo; and their spouses, children and grandchildren, including his own. We will miss him beyond words. Our great comfort is knowing that in time we will laugh with him again.
