Dr. Jonny Duane Gartman

Dr. Jonny Duane Gartman
July 28, 1945 ~ 2015

Dr. Jonny Duane Gartman was born in Tulsa, OK July 28, 1945, son of Cleo "Red" Gartman and Opal Morris Gartman. He had two brothers, Jerry Max and Michael. He lived most of his early life in Guthrie, where he graduated Guthrie High School in 1963. He married Susan Lee Caraway of Midwest City on March 23, 1968 and the family expanded with Jon Brandon Harrison Gartman on January 21, 1969, and Russell Lloyd McKeever Gartman on January 18, 1972. Jon is survived by his brother Michael Gartman of Guthrie, and his grandchildren Russell Gartman, Harrison Gartman, and Michael Gartman and his nieces and nephews.

Jon served as the State Instructor for Inhalation Therapy and Pulmonary Technology at the University of Oklahoma and Electronics technologist at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. Having grown up in an oilfield family, Jon grew up working as a roughneck. In High School he played football, and over his lifetime he worked in the medical field, oil equipment, teaching, trucking, and oxygen supply. He was the national instructor for AT&T training truckers for the federal commercial driver's license requirements. But his real love was helping people. In 1994 he joined the staff of Stilwell Memorial Hospital as Department head for Respiratory Therapy. Here he and Susan served the population of Adair County helping and saving countless lives.

He earned his doctorate in 2000 and never stopped learning personally and professionally. He passed on at Stilwell Memorial April 2, 2015 surrounded by his wife of 47 years, his sons and his brother.

With warmth and wit and a true lust for life, Jon impacted all who knew him. He had style and taste, without losing the ability to relate to people. He would stand all night over a newborn with breathing problems with numb fingers not giving up until the baby was out of danger.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 am Monday, April 6, 2015 at Hart Memorial Chapel in Stilwell, Oklahoma.
