John Wayne Garrett was born February 24, 1945 in Sulphur, Oklahoma to Effie Mae and John Elmer Garrett. He passed away February 22, 2017 at New Cordell, Oklahoma at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 28 days.
John Wayne grew up in the Wynnewood, Oklahoma area. He worked on a farm for several years before enlisting in the U.S. Army where he served his country during the Korean War. After his discharge, he returned to the Wynnewood area and began his career as a Truck Driver. He moved to Sayre in 1969 and helped with the construction of I-40. He returned to Wynnewood for a short time but for the most part he made his home in western Oklahoma. John Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. When he wasn't at work, he loved to go fishing and camping.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, David Garrett and C. W. (Buddy) Brown.
He is survived by his a daughter, Colleen Spoon and companion, Gregg McGaha, Sayre, OK; a sister, Loramae Henderson and husband, Jimmy, Joy, OK; a brother, Eugene Garrett and wife, Quanda, Wynnewood, OK; and a host of other relatives, and friends.
