Carol Jane Luckert Garlow, 62, native of Enid, Okla., passed away at her home in El Cajon, Calif., on Sunday, April 21, 2013, after a nearly six-year courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was the Pastor of Prayer and Intercession at Skyline Church in the San Diego, Calif., area, and wife of Senior Pastor Dr. Jim Garlow
Carol Jane Luckert was born in Enid, Okla., on Aug. 11, 1950, to parents Richard and Vivian Luckert, who lived in Enid before moving to the family farm, six miles west of Enid. By age 10, she began serving as the church pianist or as organist at Westside Wesleyan Church in Enid, now known as Cedar Ridge Wesleyan Church.
Living three miles south of Carrier, Carol graduated Valedictorian from Carrier High School, where she was involved in many activities, including cheerleading and being selected as FFA Sweetheart. She continued her schooling at Oklahoma Wesleyan University and later attended the University of Oklahoma.
After marrying Jim Garlow on Jan. 30, 1971, they moved to Kentucky, and later New Jersey, to continue their schooling.
Since music had captured her heart, Carol graduated with a degree in classical music and pipe organ from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey. An accomplished piano teacher, she received training in the Suzuki method of piano instruction at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, and taught piano for several decades, in addition to directing children�s choirs and producing children�s musicals
Jim and Carol later moved back to Oklahoma, where they became professors at their alma mater, Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville, Okla.
However, both Jim and Carol loved serving as pastors. After serving together at churches in Kentucky, New Jersey and Oklahoma, the Garlows moved to Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, where Jim and Carol were the founding pastors of Metroplex Chapel (Church of the Nazarene), where they served for 13 years. In 1995, they moved to the San Diego, Calif., area, when Jim became senior pastor at Skyline Wesleyan Church and Carol became the Pastor of Prayer and Intercession
After serving alongside her husband in ministry for 39 years, Carol was formally ordained by the Wesleyan denomination in 2010. In honor of her dedication to ministry and the church, Skyline�s new church sanctuary, which opened March 2012, featured a large stone wall in the atrium known as the 'Carol Garlow Healing Wall." The wall replicates Jerusalem's "Wailing Wall," a stone wall where parishioners write down their prayer requests and place them in the mortar crevices between the stones of the wall. In 2005, Carol co-authored, with her husband "God Still Heals: Answers to Your Questions about Divine Healing."
Carol is survived by her parents, Richard and Vivian Luckert, now of Oklahoma City; sister, Kathy (Larry) Goad of Desoto, Texas; brother, John (Mary) Luckert of Oklahoma City; her husband, Jim of 42 years, their four children, Janie (Jeremy) McGarity, Joshua (Lacy) Garlow, Jacob Garlow and Josie Garlow, and their five grandsons, all from the San Diego area.
