Barbara Sue (Phipps) Gannaway

Barbara Sue (Phipps) Gannaway
January 8, 1932 ~ June 10, 2015

Barbara Sue Gannaway, Lawton, was born January 8, 1932 in Clarksville, TN to Roland and Manie [Austin] Phipps. Early in the morning of June 10, 2015 our beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend went to be with her Lord and Savior. She was 83 years old. Her long fight with Alzheimer's ended. Her family was by her side as she passed from this world into heaven.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 3:00pm at First Baptist West with Pastor Harold Gaches officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service.

Barbara was a long-time resident of Clarksville, TN, but lived the last nine years in Lawton with her husband James.

Her life touched many people over the years. She ministered and cared for many sick family members and friends. She knew no strangers and she truly showed God's love in her life.

She recently celebrated her 64th wedding anniversary with James. They were married in Clarksville, TN on June 6, 1951 at Macedonia Presbyterian Church where she played the piano for many years.

She was very active in her community and church before her sickness.

Barbara was a member of the PTA, the National PTA, and Montgomery County Election Board where she enjoyed helping folks vote; she also delivered Meals on Wheels and was an Ambassador for Ten Oaks Retirement Home. She was a member of First Baptist West in Lawton.

In her free time she enjoyed bowling, flower gardening, playing the piano, being a hospital volunteer, and shopping.

Most of all she loved to spend time spoiling her husband, daughter, grandsons, great-grandsons, and her friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Roland Macon and Manie Austin Phipps; brother, Eddie Jerome Phipps; and many aunts and uncles.

Survivors include her husband, James, of the home; her daughter Melissa Anderson and husband Gregg; two grandsons, Brenton and Christopher Whitley, all from Lawton; sister, Judy Haskins and husband Bobby of Clarksville, TN; three great-grandsons, Troyce, Christopher II, and Jullian; and many nieces, nephews, close family members and friends. Barbara's online guestbook can be signed and condolences sent by visiting: www.whineryhuddleton.com.

In lieu of flowers the family requests and remembrance by sent to First Baptist West, 7302 NW Cache Rd, Lawton , OK 73505; Macedonia Presbyterian Church 737 Briarwood Rd, Clarksville, TN; or the Alzheimer's Association of Oklahoma, 2448 E. 81st St, Ste 3000, Tulsa, OK 74137.
