Carroll Don 'Salty' Fugate

May 6, 1935 ~ August 25, 2009

Carroll Don 'Salty' Fugate, 74, of Harrah, went to be with his Heavenly Father, Tuesday, August 25, 2009. He was born May 6, 1935, to Floyd and Notra (Meeks) Fugate in Wellston, OK.

Salty was a truck driver and a heavy equipment operator the majority of his adult life and retired in 1985.

He married Evelyn Higdon on December 17, 1956.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Notra; three brothers, Tommy Fugate, Shelby Fugate and infant Larry Wayne Fugate; one sister, Edith Pekrul.

He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Evelyn, three daughters, Donita Tiller and husband, Mike, of Jones, Brenda Patterson and husband, Eugene, of Harrah and Kelly Saxon and husband, Duncan, of Jones; one son, Rick Fugate and wife, Belinda, of Choctaw; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one sister, Claudette Shaffer, of Jones.

Salty fought a long and courageous battle the last 17 months while in St Anthony Hospital, never giving up on his desire to come home to his family. He was known and liked by hospital employees as well as the other patients and visitors throughout the hospital. Sincere thanks go to the Dr. Randal Allen and the staff on 4SE floor for the great care he received during his lengthy stay. He is loved and will be missed.
