Ponca City resident Jeanne Roby Freeman, 73, ended her journey and met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, December 1, 2022, surrounded by her most precious blessings from above, her three children, when her story on Earth ended.
Jeanne was born on June 22, 1949 in Ponca City, OK, the daughter of George and Imogene (White) Roby. She grew up in Ponca City and attended Ponca City High School. She was baptized at Liberty Baptist Church by Pastor George Williams. As a young woman, she worked in her parent’s western store. She grew up around horses and held the title of 101 Rodeo Queen in 1966.
On September 8, 1967, Jeanne married Mark Freeman III of Burbank, OK. They had three beautiful children - Marcie Lin, Mark J., and Jessica Lea. They established a home in rural Osage County, were married for 27 years, and worked hard to build their ranching business and family, along with instilling hard work ethic within their children.
After she raised her children, Jeanne pursued a college education graduating in May 1997 with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at Oklahoma State University. She was very proud of being an OSU Cowboy-Go Pokes! Jeanne’s teaching career began at First Lutheran School in Ponca City, where her children attended many years before. She enjoyed getting to be her Batschelett grandchildren’s teacher and working at the school they attended. She later taught for Ponca City Public Schools at Lincoln Elementary. Her students and their parents brought her so much joy, and she loved every one of them. She loved children and teaching, and always said she would be assigned to the kid’s table when she reached Heaven.
Jeanne took great pride in keeping a nice home, inside and out, and loved working in her yard and decorating for each season. She enjoyed painting and fixing up homes for her children and close friends. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren in her swimming pool during the summer months. In her later years, Jeanne loved camping, participating with her friends in the local car club, cheering on her OSU cowboys during football and basketball season and getting her nails done-only red for that woman!
Jeanne loved turning out calves and steers for Mark J. during his practice sessions, taking him to roping schools and hauling him and his horse down the rodeo trail in his younger years. When her girls were adults, she loved attending concerts with Marcie and Jessica and saw Cher and George Strait on several occasions. She loved to read and listen to her gospel music when she could no longer go out in the sunshine and work in her yard. Her beloved Westie, Ella Bella, never left her side and made her smile every day. Jeanne could always be found with a cold Dr. Pepper near by.
Jeanne is survived by her three children and their families: Marcie Batschelett and her husband, Ken, of Ponca City, Mark J. Freeman IV and his wife, Lynette, of Fairfax, and Jessica Thompson and her husband, Joe Ray, of Ponca City; grandchildren Garrett Batschelett, Laramie Freeman and Blake Kennedy, Emily Batschelett White Plume and her husband, George, Sunny Batschelett, Mark Thunder Rain Freeman V, Jules Raylin Thompson, and “Cowboy” Jax Ray Thompson; and great-grandchildren Willow Lin White Plume, Linlea Markie Kennedy, and George Roby (GR) White Plume. Siblings include Jackie Smith and companion Scott of Bowie Texas and brother Joe. Nieces and nephews include Dwayne Spangler, JD Smith, and Treena Smith; George and Jeff Dobson; and Jacob Roby, and many great nieces and nephews. Jeanne treasured her closest and dearest friends, Beverly Lonely and Pam Raglin and her caregivers Lucy and Maria.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, George and Gene, grandparents, Eck and Queenie White, Claude Roby and Nora Roby Wood, her baby sister, Janeo, her nephew Toddie Smith, her brother-in-law Danny Smith, her beloved friends Uncle Bob and Aunt Billie Stingley, and the father of her children, Markie.
The family wants to extend our deep gratitude and appreciation to her caregivers, Lucy and Maria, along with Angel Care Home Health, Ponca City Alliance ICU staff, Fairfax Manor staff and Traditions Hospice Care staff and Chaplin Russell Hughes.
