Memorial services for Van Howard Free, 59, of Guthrie, OK will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 30, 2011 at First Christian Church, Guthrie with Dr. Dennis E. Clark officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
Van was born on June 6, 1952 in Soper, OK to Ed and Mildred Free. He and his daughter, Aimee Nicole Pando, passed away Friday, September 23, 2011 in Guthrie due to an auto accident.
Van graduated from U.S. Grant High School in 1971. He married Patricia Diane Cain on June 18, 1971 in Oklahoma City, OK and they had three wonderful children: Melissa, Aimee, and Maggie. He worked at F& F Engines / Horton Motors for over 30 years.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Free of the home; two daughters Melissa McLeroy of Oklahoma City and Maggie Leep and husband Jeff of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren Bryttnie, Eathan, Harlie, Jase, Reese, Oso, Anabelle, and Abel; one brother Ed Free and wife Brenda of Yukon, OK; and three sisters Helen Miles and husband Jack of Harrah, OK, Debbie Carver of Oklahoma City, and Tammie Jones and husband Casey of Choctaw, OK.
Van is preceded in death by his parents Ed and Mildred Free and sister Vivian Long.
Van never met a stranger and was generous, kind, caring, and loving. He always put others before himself and was known to be very, very funny and loved his dogs immensely. He also loved buying and selling items of eBay and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations at any Bank of Oklahoma to the Van Free Memorial Fund, benefiting his grandchildren. You may also mail checks made payable to the Van Free Memorial Fund to 101 North Pennsylvania, Guthrie, OK 73044.
