Lewis Virgal Fouts

Lewis Virgal Fouts
May 31, 1933 ~ March 4, 2018

Lewis Virgal Fouts, 84, passed away peacefully on March 4, at Medicalodge in Dewey, Oklahoma, surrounded by his three children, his brother Verl, and many relatives and friends.

Lewis was born at home in Beggs, Oklahoma, on May 31, 1933 to Harley and Dora (Hill) Fouts. His family later moved to Dewey, Oklahoma, where his father managed the Weber Farm. Another family move took him to Nowata, Oklahoma, where his dad managed the Star K Ranch. He graduated from Nowata High School in 1953 where he was active in football, basketball and the Future Farmers of America. After graduating high school, he began working for Phillips Petroleum Company as a laboratory technician for 22 years before starting his own construction business. Lewis married Peggy Crouse on February 6, 1954 and they made their home in Dewey and later Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Lewis was an avid horseman. He enjoyed taking all three of his children to horse shows and rodeos. He was a member of the Cherokee Indian Tribe and was very proud of his tribal heritage. Lewis was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He attended Memorial Christian Church where he was a member and loved his church family dearly.

Lewis was preceded in death by his mother and father, sister, Freida Humble, and brothers, Fred Boone and Kenneth Fouts. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Fouts, one son, Stan Fouts & Patricia, two daughters, Sharon Swanson & Doug, & Susan Holbert & Eric, a very dear family friend, Pat Kindred, six grandchildren, Dustin Milligan, Chad Milligan, Kyle Fouts, Andrew Fouts, Lacey Calhoun, and Lindsey Norman, 12 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

As cremation rights have been accorded, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 17, at 11:00 a.m. in the First Christian Church, 900 N. Wyandotte, Dewey, Oklahoma. Pastor Dan Snider from Memorial Christian Church will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Memorial Christian Church, 1201 N. Virginia Ave., Bartlesville, OK 74003 where the children's program was always very important to Lewis. He would often say if a church could attract children, the family would follow later. Lewis was a true country gentleman and was loved tremendously by his family and many, many friends.
