Gloria Anne (Schneider) Fothergill

Gloria Anne (Schneider) Fothergill
June 9, 1937 ~ April 28, 2022

Our beloved matriarch, Gloria Fothergill, joined our Heavenly Father on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at the age of 84 years old.

Gloria Anne (Schneider) Fothergill was born on June 9, 1937 in Tangier, Oklahoma to Samuel and Thelma (Sheets) Schneider. After moving to Woodward at the age of 5, Gloria survived the devastating loss of her family's home and her older brother, Leon, in the 1947 Woodward Tornado. Gloria graduated from Woodward High School, where she was a member of the Glee Club. She was employed at Bogdahn Drug and Buffy's Buffet.

Gloria was united in marriage to Velden Fothergill on July 7, 1956 in Woodward. They made their first home in Alpine, Texas before moving to Fort Stockton, Texas. From this union, four children were born: Samuel Clyde, Camille Renee, Tyra Annette, & Carey Jean.

After her divorce in 1973, Gloria worked hard as a single mother to put herself through Woodward Beauty College and earn her Cosmetology Degree. She worked at the Hairpin, Savvy Salon and then Cherlyn's Style Shop for many years before her retirement in 2016.

Described by those who knew her as strong, brave, independent, opinionated, and generous, Gloria was loved by many. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and G.G. She was very involved in her church as a member of Faith United Methodist, where she sang in the choir. She also enjoyed singing and performing as a member of the Woodward Arts Theater. Gloria is lovingly remembered by her children and grandchildren for her unconditional and abounding love, but also her frankness and honesty. If you weren't sure what she thought about something, just ask, but be prepared! She is also remembered by her family for her famous foot and back massages, her notorious hugs and kisses, and above all, the love she had for her God and Savior.

Gloria took pleasure singing and listening to music, reading, doing word searches, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed her time at Providence Place, playing BINGO, doing crafts, and visiting with her friends. She will be missed by many, but we know she is now truly walking hand in hand with God.

Gloria is survived by one son Sam Fothergill and wife Peggy; three daughters: Camille Meadows and husband Kelly, Tyra Binder and husband Junior, Carey Schneider and husband Joe; one brother Dutch Schneider and wife Ann; grandchildren: Samantha Barnett and husband Robert, Melissa Crisp and husband Patrick, T.J. Meadows and wife Kristel, Bristi Jenkins and husband Cody, Buckly Binder and wife Dani, Tabitha Jones and husband Kyle, Casey Schneider, Rikki Teeples and husband Preston; great-grandchildren: Blake Best, Elizabeth, Brianna, and Anna Crisp, Resse Kadon, Landry, Bode, and Macklin Meadows, Aikin, Ainslee, Blaiklee, and Cainan Jenkins, Brodey and Lakelyn Binder, Henley Jones, Nora and Thatcher Teeples; other relatives and many friends.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Thelma Schneider, her brother Leon Schneider, and sister Lavera Haller.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Cancer research or the Faith United Methodist Church with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
