Barbara Foresman, 78, of Pittsburg, Kansas left us on October 9, 2016 following complications from a motor vehicle accident. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Via Christi Hospital.
Barbara was born in Pittsburg, Kansas July 27, 1938 to Orville A. and Maudie Swenson Runkle. Her early years were spent in West Mineral, Kansas, moving to Pittsburg with her family in 1950. After graduating from Pittsburg High School in l956 she attended Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg, receiving her B.S. in Education in 1960. She later received her M.S. in special Education from Pittsburg State University in 1988 and taught until her retirement in 2000 at USD 101 Special Ed Co-op.
Barbara and James B. Foresman were married in 1962 in Pittsburg. After many years of moving to various places as a result of Jim's work with Phillips Petroleum Company, they settled in Bartlesville, Oklahoma where they lived for many years. To this union was born two sons: James Runkle Foresman and Robert Buckey Foresman.
Rob preceded her in death in 2000 and her loving husband of more than 50 years died in 2013.
Survivors include her son James R. Foresman and his wife Nicole of Pittsburg, granddaughter Ailie and grandson Robert James, her sister Beverly and husband William E. Benso of Lawrence, Kansas, her brother Gary and wife Mary Runkle of Frisco, Colorado. Also included in her family is her son Robert's widow, Laurel Zuberi, husband Phyll and their son Romaan, plus many nieces and nephews
Barbara was very active in her community, contributing her time and efforts to P. E.O., Pittsburg Beautiful and the Multi-Generational Choir at Pittsburg High School. She enjoyed gardening and her yard was a showplace each summer. She treasured holiday dinners with family and friends and she enriched the lives of all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 14, 2016 at the Presbyterian Church, 520 N. Pine Street, Pittsburg, Kansas, with Pastor K.O. Noonoo officiating.
The family suggests memorials either to Pittsburg Beautiful or to the Multi-Generational Choir at Pittsburg High School in lieu of flowers. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
