David Scott Fooshee was born in Bartlesville, OK, May 17, 1955. He passed away peacefully on April 17, 2018.
A native "Bartian", "Scott" attended Highland Park and Ranch Heights Elementary schools, Madison Junior High School, and Bartlesville Sooner High School. He participated in football, high school band, and student council as well as playing keyboard in a rock 'n roll band. Scott served as class president his Sophomore through Senior years and graduated in 1973.
He was awarded a Regents Scholarship and attended Oklahoma State University, graduating in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology, with an emphasis in genetics. While at OSU he became a member of the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta and served as a photographer for the OSU yearbook. He enjoyed serving on the Allied Arts Council and also worked for the campus electrical department.
He applied and was admitted to the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry. He entered dental school in the fall of 1977 and graduated with honors in May of 1981, having been elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the dental school honor fraternity. On July 28, 1979, he married his college sweetheart, Cindy Reese, of Fairview OK.
In June of 1981 the couple made their home in Bartlesville where he began his practice of general dentistry. As his practice grew, so did his family. Two sons were born, David Reese Fooshee in 1982 and Michael Scott Fooshee, in 1985. Scott was a graduate of Leadership Bartlesville, served on the United Way, and was an active member of Bartlesville First Church, serving on various committees, and leading his HIM Sunday School Class. He was a member of the noon Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow.
Dr. Fooshee also served as president on the KLIFE Board and the Bartlesville Band & Orchestra Booster Club. He loved photography and music, especially jazz, classical, and 70's tunes.
Cancer diagnosis and treatment rearranged his life in 2006, and his priorities. He looked forward to hunting, fishing, and traveling with great friends. His greatest joy was found spending time with his family. Some recent highlights in his life were being able to "hood" Michael at his Dental School graduation in 2012, participate in David and Michael's weddings to his two beautiful daughter-in-laws, celebrate the birth of his first grandson, as well as attend David's PhD dissertation this past fall. He dearly loved his sons, his two amazing girls, and his two year old grandson, Maxwell Wang Fooshee, was the apple of his eye.
Dr. Fooshee served the Bartlesville community for 33 years, making many life long friendships with his patients. It became apparent in the fall of 2014 that he must retire from the practice of dentistry due to failing vision. It was hard to leave his work, patients, and beloved staff, which he often praised as the backbone of his practice. His devoted office staff have been and always will be considered part of his family.
Scott felt extremely blessed to be cared for by many wonderful physicians in Bartlesville and in Houston, where he sought treatment for 12 years. His family, friends, and church were a constant source of strength for him and his family through this difficult journey.
Dr. Fooshee approached his disease with grace and dignity. He continued to live his life in the present. He was grateful for every day, knowing each one was a gift from God. Even as cancer claimed his body, he was filled with the joy and peace that comes from knowing his heavenly father.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Walter Warren Fooshee and Marilee A Gash Fooshee, and one nephew, Mathew Warren Fooshee. He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy, and two sons, Dr. David Reese Fooshee, wife Timmie, and grandson, Maxwell of Irvine, CA, Dr. Michael Scott Fooshee and wife Megan of Dallas, TX, one brother, Dr. Steven W Fooshee and wife Marilyn of Tulsa, OK, and many nieces and nephews.
