Memorial services for Dr. Norman Fogel, age 87, of Norman will begin at 1:00 pm Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the Historic Santa Fe Train Depot, 200 South Jones in Norman with Dr. Tom Boyd officiating.
Dr. Fogel was born May 20, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Jacob and Gittle Fogel. He was united in marriage to Joane Patricia Moran on December 9, 1960 in Norman, Oklahoma. Dr. Fogel was a professor of Chemistry for the University of Oklahoma for 35 years, retiring in 1993.
He enlisted into the Unites States Army on March 31, 1943 at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois, serving his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged on January 30, 1946 at the Separation Center in Camp Grant, Illinois. His tours of duty included Rhineland and Central Europe.
Dr. Fogel was one of the founding members of the Norman Community Playhouse. He was also very active in the Oklahoma City Theater Community, as well as the Lyric Theater and the Jewell Box Theater. Dr. Fogel was also an active member of the OU Hillel Foundation, and was a lifetime member of the American Chemistry Society and the Royal Chemistry Society. Dr. Fogel also served as the King of the Norman Medieval Fair.
Survivors include his wife of more than 50 years, Joane Fogel of the home in Norman; two daughters, Nancy McAnarney of Norman, and Dara Fogel and her husband, Richard Auer of Norman; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William Fogel.
Arrangements for Dr. Fogel and his family were placed in the care of the Vice family at Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
