Robert L. "Bob" Flottman
July 11, 1936 ~ July 28, 2017

Robert L. (Bob) Flottman, 81, passed away Friday, July 28, 2017, at Winfield Senior Living Center surrounded by his family.

Memorial service is 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at the Shelley Family Funeral Home in Winfield, Kan. Graveside service follows at Highland Cemetery. 

Memorials in Bob's name may be made out to the Cowley County Humane Society or the American Heart Association, and may be left in the care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield. 

Bob was born July 11, 1936, in Winfield, Kan. He was the oldest son of Robert E. and Norma (Sheeks) Flottman. 

Bob graduated as a member of Winfield High School class of 1955. Bob began working for Safeway Grocery Stores while in high school. He became a Meat Market Manager and worked in numerous stores throughout Kansas, as well as in Enid. He retired in 1993, after 40 years with the company. 

Bob married Christine Waldorf on August 29, 1957. They had one son, Rex.

From 1976 through 2010, Bob along with his brother Ben, became part owner of Dawson Monument Company after the passing of their father.

Bob was a third generation member of the Odd Fellow Lodge. He had an interest in a lot of things ranging from playing the harmonica to vintage World War II military aircraft. 

When Bob returned to Winfield he developed a love for the Walnut Valley Festival. He enjoy playing music in the campgrounds and taking newcomers on tours through the festival; but his real pride and joy was his idea for the festival Avenue of Flags at the main entry drives into the festival in 1996. 

He was know by campers as the "Festival Flagman" and few things excited him more than getting to add a new flag to the collection when he learned a person from a foreign country was in attendance. Bob was also a big fan of the Walnut River String Band and was know to show up at concerts around the Midwest, helping sell band CDs and help in anyway he could to support the band. 

Bob is survived by his wife, Christine of the home, son Rex and wife Sandra, two granddaughters, Sheridon and Sierra Flottman all of Winfield, brother Melvin (Ben) Flottman and wife Charlotte of Sioux Falls, S.D., and great-aunts Dorothy Flottman and Ruth O'Connor of Winfield. 

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, and niece Marla Flottman.
