Patricia Hannah Flood was born on August 20, 1920 in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. She was one of six children of John L. Hannah and Ollie May (Whitfield) Hannah. Pat grew up and attended grade school in Battiest, Oklahoma. In her teen years, she joined her sister and family in Oklahoma City, where she attended high school and graduated from Classen High School in OKC.
Pat had a broad experience in her working career holding down jobs in Oklahoma City, Fairfax, Shidler and Ponca City. She worked in retail clothing, drug stores, for a newspaper, and as a nurse's assistant. Following high school she met and married Paul H. Nelson. The couple was blessed with two children, Bruce and Carmen. The family was transferred to several towns as Paul worked as a Superintendent for Phillips Petroleum Co. This twenty-nine year marriage was ended with the untimely death of Paul in l969. Pat married again in 1971 to Charles Flood of Newkirk, OK where she assisted in Charles' farming operation. The couple were married for thirty years before Charles' passing in 2001.
Pat was an avid bridge and pitch player and was active in many church and civic organizations. She had strong feelings for her pets, especially her Schnauzer, Pepper of fourteen years, who was her constant companion after the passing of her husband, Charles.
In 2015, Pat sold her home in Ponca City and relocated to Norman, OK to be closer to her daughter, Carmen and husband Chris. She will be remembered for her friendly and outgoing personality and especially her bright smile.
Pat was preceded in death by her mother, father, brothers, John Ray, Paul, John, and Jack Hannah, sister, Lucy Sanders, son, Bruce Nelson and son-in-law, Bud Cook.
She is survived by her daughter, Carmen Christopher and husband Chris of Norman, daughter-in-law, Lana Nelson of Ponca City, stepdaughters, Charlene Cole, Kathy Preston, and Sharon Jackson, grandchildren, Cara Holland and husband Matt of Kaw City, Chad Cook and wife Misty of Kaw City, Jeff Nelson of Altus, Joey Nelson and wife Marla of Rogers, Arkansas and Crystal Nelson Forinash of Moore, OK, eleven great-grandchildren, many close nieces, nephews and a host of close friends.
A memorial ceremony for Pat will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Trout Funeral Home & Crematory in Ponca City with Rev. Michael Shane Hickey officiating.
Memorial donations may be made in Pat's honor to Frontier Hospice, 7705 S. Walker Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73139.
