Nancy Lynn (Roberts) Flake

Nancy Lynn (Roberts) Flake
May 10, 1956 ~ Feb. 12, 2013

Nancy Lynn (Roberts) Flake, 56, passed away Feb. 12, 2013, after a short, but valiant battle with cancer. Nancy's last weeks were spent with most of her best friends by her side helping her make her last journey. When she passed, she was in the company of her two beloved sons, Mason and Marty, and her ex-husband, John.

Nancy was born May 10, 1956, in Bartlesville, Okla., to William Gordon and Julia Ann Roberts. She graduated from College High School in Bartlesville in 1973 and went on to earn a degree in journalism at the University Central Oklahoma in Edmond.

In 1997, Nancy started working for The Courier in Conroe, Texas as an advertorial writer for the Shop Conroe page and as a restaurant critic, before becoming a fulltime news reporter. In her 15-plus years at The Courier, she served as an education reporter, city editor, digital editor and managing editor.

As an Oklahoma native, Nancy loved her Sooners football team, music, good wine and cooking with friends.

She will be dearly missed, but the positive impact and influence she had on the community and her family will live on.

Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, Julia Ann Roberts.

She is survived by her two sons, Mason Roberts Flake and Martin James Flake. She is also survived by her father, William Gordon Roberts and wife Shirley; brother, Bill Roberts Jr. and wife Jayne; sister, Carol Starrett and husband David; numerous nieces and nephews; her close friends Sherri Suhr, Darlene Schafer, Kari Yozviak and Celeste Ivon; and her extended family at The Conroe Courier.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at The Woodlands United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Cliff Ritter.

To honor her memory, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
