Julie Flager, 69, beloved Mother, Grandma, and Sister was called to her eternal resting place on June 28, 2023. She entered this world on August 2, 1953, in Pittsburg, Kansas. Born to Eddie J. Hickman and Bertha E. (Lee) Hickman, she would eventually be the eldest of 7 siblings.
Julie spent most of her youth in Cushing, Oklahoma, and graduated from Cushing High School in 1971. She later moved to Cleveland, Oklahoma where she raised her family and worked at Walmart before retiring as Assistant Manager. In 2003, Julie moved to Ponca City to be closer to her grandchildren and remained a resident for the next 20 years. Julie loved working in her yard, teaching Children's Church at Eastern Heights Christian Church, playing bunco with her friends, and being actively involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her three children: Mary James and husband Brian James of Lake Jackson, Texas, Matt Flager of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Nikki Chapman, and husband Shaun Chapman of Cleveland, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren: Kendal James and wife Micah James, Kelsey James and Dalton Coates, Bailey Seitz, Dylan Swain and Becca Wheeler, Karly James and Ethan Deibler, Maddie Swain, and Marin Chapman; five siblings: Marilyn Bradley of Stillwater, Eddie Hickman of Newcastle, Barney Hickman of Weatherford, Ronnie Hickman of Drumright, and John Hickman of Cushing; beloved cats, Ricky and Pearl, and many friends. She is preceded in death by her father, mother, and sister Penny Talbert.
Anyone who knew Julie was blessed by her kind and giving nature. Though she battled several serious illnesses most of her adult life, she remained a source of strength, comfort, and unconditional love to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Eastern Heights Christian Church in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
