Services are being held Saturday, August 30, at 10:00 a.m., at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church for Rosie Fields, 92, who died August 24, 2003. The Rev. Reuben Ford, pastor of St. Paul AME Church, Santa Barbara, CA will officiate. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery.
Mrs. Fields, a native of Beggs, Oklahoma, had resided in Bakersfield since 1937 where she and her late husband, Benjamin Fields owned and operated a neighborhood grocery store for many years. She was a devoted member of Mt. Zion MBC for over 50 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Vera (Reuben) Ford of Santa Barbara, CA; brother, Jessie (Ola Mae) Shaw of Sapulpa, OK; four grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. A special thank you to Dr. Ajitipals Tiwana, the Truxtun Manor Staff, Hoffmann Hospice Care and the Rosewood Staff for making Ms. Rosie's stay pleasant and eventful.
Visitation will be held 12 noon to 8 p.m. today in the Jesse E. Cooley, Jr. Chapel, with an hour of meditation to be held 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
