Glenn E. Faison

May 21, 1927 ~ April 21, 2011 (age 83)

Glenn E. Faison passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011, in Norman at his home.

A memorial service honoring his life will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Norman.

Glenn was born on May 21, 1927, in Flynn, Texas, to Dena and Dewey Faison . He grew up in Gladewater, Texas, where he graduated as the valedictorian of Gladewater High School in 1944. Following high school, Glenn attended Baylor University.

While in college, he was drafted by the Army and served honorably in Korea. Following his Army service, he returned to Baylor and completed his bachelor's degree in business administration. Feeling a calling from the Lord into full-time Christian ministry, Glenn attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. There he received a master's of Sacred Music and a master's in Religious Education.

It was in his first position at the First Baptist Church in Hawkins, Texas, that he met the love of his life, Dorothy. May 15, 2011 would have marked their 57th wedding anniversary.

Glenn served in churches in Gladewater, Bryan, Big Spring, and Longview, Texas. While in Bryan, Glenn also received a master's degree in Education from Texas A&M University. The last 16 years of his active ministry was spent at First Baptist Church in Norman as Minister of Education and Administration. In total, Glenn spent 40 years in full-time Christian ministry.

In retirement, Glenn and Dorothy enjoyed traveling extensively. Another of his great enjoyments in retirement came in working with the Union Builders Association where helped on numerous construction projects assisting various churches and Christian organizations.

Glenn lived life as a faithful steward in all things. Above all, he was a Christian gentleman. He was a role model for his family and left us a wonderful legacy to follow.

Survivors include his loving wife, Dorothy; his son, Kent and wife Ann of Norman; his daughter, Karol and husband Jack of The Woodlands, Texas; five grandsons who were a great source of joy and fulfillment for him: Cullin Faison and wife Katherine of Norman; Carter Faison of Norman; Clay Faison of Norman; Jordan Roach and wife Gentry of Dallas; and Jason Roach of Waco, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Norman, Sanctuary Renovation Fund, 211 W. Comanche, Norman, Okla. 73069.
