Bob Ewing

October 24, 1926 ~ September 30, 2013

Bob Ewing a long time resident of Durant, Oklahoma went home to be with his Savior on Monday, September 30, 2013 at the age of 86 years 11 months and 6 days. He was born in Utica, Oklahoma to James Ogden "Red" and Octa Ima (Alexander) Ewing on Sunday, October 24, 1926.

Bob married the love of his life Jody Blanten, and they were married for 57 years.

Bob graduated from Durant High School in 1943 then enlisted in the United States Navy. He served his county during WWII in the Pacific and received a Battle Star for the invasion of Okinawa, after the end of the war he enrolled in Southeastern State College earning his degree in 1950. While Bob was in school he worked part time at a men's clothing store until he graduated from college then went on to work full time and become a part owner of the store.

He then interviewed with a manufacturer of men's hats and was hired as a representative for their company, traveling for 30 years selling their merchandise. Bob was a faithful, active member of the St. John's Episcopal Church serving as Senior Warden, treasurer, youth church school teacher and lay reader for over 50 years. He was involved with the G.O.P. as chairman of the Bryan County Central Committee, State Executive and County Committee man. Bob was appointed to the Oklahoma State Pardon and Parole Boards by Governor Henry Bellmon where he served for 5 years. Bob loved to fish at Lake Texoma and Hickory Hollow whenever he could, he especially enjoyed fishing for bass or crappie. He like to golf even though by his own admission he was "not very good at it". Bob was a member of the Durant Country Club for more than a half of a century. The club was publicly owned by stock holders for many years and he served on the Board of Directors and as the Club President.

Mr. Ewing is survived by his son, Jim Ewing of Durant, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Addelle of Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Mr. Ewing was preceded in death by his parents, Red and Octa Ima Ewing; wife, Jody of 57 years; daughter, Linda Ann Fowler; infant twin brother; sister, Sue Watts .

A Memorial Service in his memory will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 7, 2013 at the St. John's Episcopal Church in Durant, Oklahoma with Father James Blagg officiating.
