Phillip "Phil" Benton Ewert passed away on Friday July 24, 2015 at 11:50 am.

Phil was a loving brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He touched the lives of all who new him.

Phil was born on January 23, 1937 in Dallas, Texas and grew up in Pauls Valley Oklahoma.

He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1958 and served 2 years in the United States Navy as an Intelligence Officer on the Island of Guam. During his tour of duty he earned the rank of Lt. JG.

Upon his return to Pauls Valley, Phil went to work for the family business, G.F. Wacker Stores. He worked in the family business from 1960 through 1980, culminating his career as the CEO/President of the company. In 1980 he relocated to San Antonio Texas where he served as the Executive Vice President of Winn's Stores until 1985. Phil finished his stellar business career as the Western Regional Sales Manager for The Ohio Art Company from 1986 until his retirement in 1997.

Phil loved to travel and enjoy life. His trips to the Orient, the Caribbean, and New York were his passion, as well as his love of Oklahoma Sooners Football and San Antonio Spurs basketball.

While here in Pauls Valley he was very active in a number of civic affairs including: President of the Pauls Valley Chamber of Commerce, President of the Park Board, serving on the School Board, a member of the Rotary Club, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Phil was preceded in death by maternal grandparents George and Mona Wacker of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, paternal grandparents Jonathon James and Anna McCaughey Ewert of Lindsay, Oklahoma, and his parents McCaughey and Marianne Ewert of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.

He is survived by his sisters Adrienne Grimmett and her husband, Jack, and Ann Cloutier, and brother George Ewert and his wife, Debbie, all of Paul's Valley, Oklahoma; his daughters Diane Ewert McDaniel and her husband, Grover, and Valerie Ewert Byrd of San Antonio, Texas and his son Phillip Bradford Ewert and his wife, Paige, of Fort Worth, Texas; his grandchildren Keith Byrd, Emily Byrd, and Allen Ewert of San Antonio, Texas; and his great grandchildren Madison Byrd, Haden Byrd, Audrey Byrd, Coleman Byrd, Caden Byrd, and Dustin Hodges, all of San Antonio, Texas.

Phil was an honorable, faithful, and loyal man who will be truly missed. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association, Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, San Antonio Animal Defense League, or the Wacker Park Fund at P. O. Box 778 in Pauls Valley, OK 73075, in Phil's honor.

A celebration of life will be held at the Pauls Valley Presbyterian Church on Wednesday July 29th at 11:00am, officiating will be by Pastor Tracy Wilson. We invite you to send the family a message of condolence at the Guest Book link below.
