Ramon Dee "Manche" Estes

Ramon Dee "Manche" Estes
Nov 24, 1933 ~ Aug 4, 2014

Ramon Dee “Manche” Estes, age 80, of Amarillo, Texas, formerly of Harmon County, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, August 4, 2014, at Baptist St. Anthony Hospital, in Amarillo.

Mr. Estes was born in Harmon County, near the Sandy Community, on November 24, 1933, to Raymond Hickman and Eunice Mae (Mills) Estes. After graduating from Arnett High School in 1951, he attended Southwestern College before returning home to farm. On May 11, 1954, he entered the United States Army where he proudly served his country until being honorably discharged on April 25, 1956. On March 5, 1955, he married the love of his life, Wanda Lemons, and they spent the next fifty-nine wonderful years together before his death. The young couple was married shortly before Manche left for Korea.

After he was discharged, Manche took a job with the Phillips Petroleum company in Texhoma, OK. They lived at the Phillips Plant south of Guymon, and a plant southeast of Texhoma before moving to Gruver in 1962. Manche transferred to Perryton in 1968, where he retired in 1992. While in Perryton, Manche was Wanda’s “right-hand man” in managing the Perryton Satellite of the Amarillo State Center for Human Development. While Wanda was the coordinator of the Satellite which educated and trained learning and physically disabled individuals, Manche built furniture for the center, kept the yards, maintained the facilities and van, and helped her any way he could to keep the operation running smoothly. Manche was always there to help anyone who needed a hand, and was happy to do it.

Manche and Wanda moved to Amarillo in 1993, to be closer to their children. In his spare time, Manche kept an immaculate yard and car, doing a little fishing and hunting and tinkering. A loving Christian father and grandfather, Manche loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Preceded in death by his parents, sister Rita Joyce Duncan, and an infant son who was Brad’s twin.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda, of the home; two children, Rama Boaz and husband Steve of Schertz, Texas and Brad Estes and wife Connie of Amarillo, Texas; three grandsons, David Boaz of Schertz, Texas, Kyler Estes and wife Whitney of Amarillo and Tanner Estes of Amarillo; one great grandson, Kasen Estes of Amarillo along with many other relatives and friends.

Graveside services for Ramon Dee “Manche” Estes will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 9, 2014, at the Dodson, Texas Cemetery with Brad Estes officiating. Services are under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home of Hollis.
