Joy Juanell Estes was born June 7, 1928 in Mayfield, Oklahoma to Lillie Mae and Sam C Davis. She passed away April 8, 2015 at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 1 day.
Juanell grew up in the Sweetwater area and graduated from Sweetwater high school in 1946. After graduation, she began working at the Beckham County National Bank as a teller. Juanell met and was eventually married to Ernest Edward Estes on May 15, 1949 at Sayre, Oklahoma. Juanell and Ernie moved to Santa Maria, California where Ernie was working for the railroad. Juanell raised her children and was a homemaker during their time in California. She was a gifted piano player and provided private lessons to 40-60 students per year. She also was the piano player at the Pine Grove Baptist Church for over 55 years. Due to health issues Juanell retired from giving piano lessons in 2011 and shortly thereafter she and Ernie moved to Sayre to be closer to their family. She was an active member in Christian Women's Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lillie Mae Davis, 1 daughter, Sandra Denise Estes; 1 sister, Lovelle Dunsworth.
She is survived by her husband, Ernie, of the home; 2 daughters, Sue Ann Lakey and husband, Robert, Sayre, OK and Carolyn Jean Chacon and husband, Dan, Paulden, AZ; 4 grandchildren, Jamie Lakey and wife, Robin of Sayre, OK, Lindsay Northcutt and husband, Jeremy, Grapevine, TX, Cullen Chacon and wife, Carrie, Phoenix, AZ and Jared Chacon of Sacramento, CA; 9 greatgrandchildren; 2 sisters, Dora Jean Woods, Sayre, OK and Loretta Cutright, Bartlesville, OK and a host of other relatives and friends.
