Eunice Mae Mills Estes, age 100, of Amarillo, Texas and formerly of Hollis, passed away Friday evening, June 21, 2013, in Amarillo.
Mrs. Estes was born in Arlie, Texas on December 8, 1912, to Virgil Quincy and Bertha Viola (Welch) Mills. In 1926, the family moved to the Sandy Community northwest of Hollis, where she attended school at O.M., later graduating from Hollis High School in 1931. Eunice married Raymond Hickman Estes on January 14, 1933. They spent the next sixty-five years together until his death in January of 1998. Most of those years were spent living on the Estes family farm in the Sandy Community. Eunice’s life was spent serving her Lord Jesus Christ, caring for her family, and helping Raymond run the farm. In 1980, they moved to Hollis and after Raymond’s death, Eunice moved to Amarillo in 2002 to be near family. In her spare time she loved sewing, quilting, gardening, canning, bird-watching, and listening to gospel music. She taught generations of children in Sunday School, many times picking up those children on the way to church. She played the piano in worship service at Hope Baptist Church, and she and Raymond spend years leading the music for Sunday Worship Service at nursing homes in Hollis.
Eunice was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Rita Joyce Duncan; one great-grandson, Todd Duncan; a son-in-law, Glen Duncan; two sisters, Odessa Land and Elsie Vee Bryan; and one brother, Lloyd Mills.
