Memorial services for Lowell Douglas Epperson, 77, of Marietta will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 7 at the Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta, with Brother Brett Alberda officiating.
Born January 23, 1942, at Chattanooga, Tennessee, the son of Joseph Franklin and Anna Laura Carter Epperson, he died Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at the Brookside Nursing Center in Madill.
Lowell attended school in Tennessee and later served his country in the United States Army. After his service, he moved to Dallas, marrying Lila Greenwood, starting a family, building a home, and moving to Marietta in 1980. In 1983, Lowell achieved a lifelong goal of receiving a G.E.D. from Marietta High School. Lowell enjoyed watching old John Wayne and Godzilla movies, reading his Bible, going to church, and visiting with friends and family. Most of all, Lowell was a music buff who loved listening to classical music, taking the family to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynette, and big band concerts at Fairpark in Dallas. He was also a great lover of cats having his own tuxedo cat, Bandit of eight and one-half years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Franklin Epperson; and sister, Jane Epperson. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Epperson of Birch, Texas and Laura Hendricks of Madill; brother, David Epperson and wife Charlotte of Chattanooga; three grandchildren, Tabitha Epperson, Lelend Windom and Alesha Holt; four great-grandchildren, Matthew Epperson, Kiersten Epperson, Timberly Ellis and Parker Ellis; and Bandit.
Honorary bearers will be Rick Brannan, Bobby Brewer, Jim Jenkins, Jimmy Hendricks and Brad Butler. The family suggests memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
