Ora Woodrow "Woody" English

May 26, 1947 ~ October 10, 2008

Ora Woodrow "Woody" English passed from this life into the arms of His Lord on October 10, 2008, after a long battle with chronic heart complications. Born May 26th, 1947, in Prairie Grove, Arkansas, Woody was the only son of Vernon Pete English and Georgia Lara Croley English.

In his childhood years, Woody lived in over a dozen small towns throughout the Midwest and as far north as Oregon; to finally settle in Stillwell, OK, and graduated high school, a Stilwell Indian. His ambition and intelligence drove him through three successful years of college at Northeastern State. While working at a grocery store to earn money to complete his degree, Woody was drafted by the Army and served 2 years in Viet Nam. Woody served in the US Army from 1969-1971 and made staff sergeant as a draftee in 14 months. Upon his return to the states, he began working at another grocery store in Waldron, AR, and met his wife of 37 years Arlene Oliver. Woody and Arlene had three children and made their home in Albany, Oregon. Woody worked as a factory worker in a paper mill until a back injury forced him into early retirement. In 1988, Woody and his family moved back to Waldron, AR, and he lived out his later years surrounded by multitudes of loving family and friends.

Woody leaves behind a powerful legacy of kindness, generosity, and a family that will forever miss him and cherish the time they had together. Woody is survived by his wife, Arlene English of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Todd Hunsucker of Waldron, AR; a son and daughter-in-law, Wesley and Amanda English of Greenwood, AR; three sisters, Patricia McVey of Albany, OR; Debbie Patterson, of Stilwell, OK; and Marlene Ballard of Stilwell, OK.

Woody is preceded in death by his beloved, youngest son, Justin Dean English; his mother Georgia Lara English; and his Father Vernon Pete English.

Woody's funeral services will be Monday, October 13, 2008, at Winfield Baptist Church in Waldron, AR, at 2:00pm following his interment at the Sehorn Cemetery, next to his son Justin. Funeral services will be under the direction of Martin Funeral Home in Waldron. Visitation will be Sunday October 12, 2008 from 4-8pm in the Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron, Arkansas.

Pall Bearers will be Milo Hughes, Howard Himes, Paul Yingling, Noon Blakemore, Jessie Wilkes, and Eddie Spence. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Todd Hunsucker, Shawn McVey, Charles Maxwell, Jerry Skeen, Lenny Lott, Johnny Allen, and Dewayne Watkins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Sehorn Cemetery in Winfield Arkansas through Martin Funeral Home.
