Millard Oral England

May 20, 1918 ~ December 2, 2009

A memorial Service for Millard England, 91, of Cordell, has been set for 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at the First Assembly of God Church in Cordell, Oklahoma. Rev. Doyle Roark will officiate under the direction of Loftiss-Lee-McClure Funeral Home of Cordell.

Millard Oral England was born on May 20, 1918, to Joseph Finis and Mary Sue (Wilson) England at Washita, Oklahoma. Millard England passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2009 at his home in Cordell.

Millard married his high school sweetheart, Joye Hadley, on July 2, 1938 at Cordell, and to this union two sons were born: Mike and Steve. Joye England passed away on May 16, 1998.

Upon graduation from Weatherford High School, Millard attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University for four years, and during that time was cited as an outstanding Football Half-Back for SWOSU.

Millard enlisted and served his country during WWII in the 11th U.S. Naval Construction Battalion - SeaBees Division, of the United States Navy from 1942-1945.

Millard served in the South Pacific and was awarded the following commendations: American Theatre Medal, Pacific Theatre Medal with two battle stars, Navy Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and the United States Navy Life Saving Commendation. He achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer - Carpenter's Mate.

After serving his country, Millard returned to SWOSU and completed his degree in Education.

In 1946, Millard moved to Anadarko, Oklahoma, where he began his teaching and coaching career. and also taught Industrial Arts.

In 1948, Millard moved to Cordell where he coached and taught for seven years in the Cordell Public School system. After his teaching and coaching career, Millard went to work for the United States Postal Service as a Rural Mail Carrier and retired in 1978.

Millard England was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the Masonic Lodge. Millard was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Cordell.

Millard is survived by two sons: Mike England and his wife Sheri, of Cordell; Steve England, of Clinton, Oklahoma; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and a host of many other family members and friends.

Millard was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Sue England; his wife of fifty-nine years Joye England; one sister, Wilma Webster; and one brother, Orville Steve England.
