Frederick D. Engelke, Ripley resident, passed away Friday, January 22, 2010 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 89 years.

The son of the late Nickloas Engelke and Laura Brown Engelke, Fred was born on December 12, 1920 in Richmond Staten Island, NY and was raised and educated in Long Island.

He was united in marriage to Doris Ellen Truppner on Sept. 26, 1953 in Staten Island, living there for 25 years prior to moving to Sherman, TX, where they resided for 25 years, before coming to the Ripley community about six years ago.

Fred had worked for Sun Chemical for over 30 years prior to his retirement in 1972.

He was a member of the Ripley Methodist Church.

He enjoyed woodworking, painting, repairing things, and was an avid reader.

Survivors include his children, David Engelke and his wife Phyllis of Ripley, OK and Ronald Engelke and his wife Dequita of Sherman, TX; his grandchildren, Alias Engelke and Clarinda Engelke of OK, Johnny Engelke. Donna Engelke, Dorothy Shafer, Minnie Smith, Nicholas Engelke, Quincy Engelke and Dustin Engelke all of TX and Cory Broomfield of Ontario, Canada; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Services will be held on Monday, January 25, 2010 at 4 P.M. in the Ripley United Methodist Church with Pastor Hugh Willoby, officiating.

Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. in the Cedarlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Sherman, TX with Pastor Tom Peel, officiating.

Military services will be conducted at the cemetery.
