Elmer "Penny" Engel

???? ~ October 17, 2005 | Age 93

ELMER (PENNY) ENGEL - Services: Thurs., Oct 20, 12:00 p.m.

On Monday, October 17, 2005 God reached out His hand surely saying, "Well done though good and faithful servant," and led Elmer "Penny" Engel to the eternal home. Penny lived just 4 weeks short ofhis 94th birthday.

Penny started life in Corn, Oklahoma. He received his teaching credential from Southwestern Teachers College. Penny's avocation was teaching, in the classroom, on the athletic field, in Sunday School, in the church and school board rooms. His quiet gentle manner provided rock solid lessons in life for all he touched.

Penny started 35 years of teaching in Corn, Oklahoma where he was promoted to high school principal. In 1949 he began teaching 7th and 8th grades at Maple School staying until 1969. He ended his teaching career at Maricopa Elementary 1969-1974. With his wife, Velina, Penny had the privilege of working at Hume Lake Christian Camp for 20 summers.

Penny leaves behind a wonderful legacy of family and friends including his wife of 69 years, Velina (Reimer) Engel; son, Jim Engel and wife, Leasa; daughter, Nancy Kliewer and husband, Jim; 4 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter and his Heritage Village family.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 20th, 9:30 a.m., at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd, followed by a memorial service at Laurel Glen Church, 12:00 noon.

Penny wants his family, friends, students, and athletes to know how much he loved them and that he is looking forward to the glorious reunion.
